Well it has been 4 days and Cricket is doing good with her training.  Mom has been working with her with the leash, the watch command and reward marker.  This is a sound or noise you make to let your dog know she has done something right.  Similar to clicker training.  She is doing really good with this.  Mom makes her stay and Mom will walk clear across our back yard and our yard is hugh and make the clicking noise with her tongue and Cricker comes running.  She does really well for being close to ten months old.  The reward marker wouldn't do me any good since I can't hear a dang thing, but there is nothing wrong with my nose especially with those special human grade beef jerky pieces made for dogs Mom getrs at Gourmet Pets, but they are so tiny Mom will give me one and it is like a grain of salt.  They are perfect for little Cricket, but man I can barely taste them.  Mom knows I shouldn't have that kind of stuff, but I am 14 yrs old and don't how much longer I am going to be on this earth she thinks I deserve a little pleasures in life.  So far I haven't had any problems with the treats.

Well Miss Cricket, started her first puppy class tonight and of course I had to stay home by myself.  It is not fair!!!  Mom said she did  good, but next time she wasn't standing near the lab.  He was flipping out and had Cricket all stirred up.  The weather was nasty and cold.  Now the homework begins (hehehe) sure glad I don't have to do any homework

This weather is crazy...this weekend it was almost 70 F and then monday and tuesday it snowed off and on.  Miss Cricket is going to puppy school.  Mom enrolled her into the K9 Academy.  She starts school next tuesday.  Mom say's she is actually doing well with training, but thought she needed the class anyway and also she can socialize with other dogs.  I think a little prozac is what she needs.  Man what energy that stinker has.  She has a lot more energy than I did at that age and I had alot of it.  Mom said it was the terrier in her.  She acts more like her mom the Rat terrier than her Chihuahua dad.  Mom has been taking her to the pet store when she has to relieve Beckey for Dr. appointments,.  Mom wants her to get more people friendly.  She is doing better.  She likes little kids which is good as a lot of little dogs don't.  She is more leary of adults than little kids.  She even let the 4 year neighbor boy pick her up.  Mom was shocked.  Mom keeps telling me, she will never be as sweet and as smart as I am..but I know mom and even dad have become attached to the little stinker.  I have to admit I have too.  If she would just STAY OUT OF MY FACE!!!!!!!

10:46 AM

Well since it was warm Saturday, Mom decided to try and give me a bath.  I hate baths!!!  She got me into the bathroom and told me to get into the shower and I suprised her, I walked in on my own.  I must have been dirty for me to want a bath.  I kept falling down as the shower floor is slick and I have a hrd time standing, so mom told me just to lay down and she would scrub me the best she could.  She ended uo having to hold my hind end up so she could rinse me.  Finally she was finished and tried to towel dry me they best she could, she yelled at dad and told him to let me out, and then she showered herself while cleaning the lab hair out of the shower.  She came out and there was water everywhere and I was laying in the middle of the livingroom.  Mom asked dad why I was still in the house, he said "I thought you said don't let her out"  Mom was not happy everything was wet from me shaking and rolling.  So mom let me out into the warm sunshine and started mopping and trying to dry things out.  Cricket was running around me like crazy.  She had never seen me act goofy.  It felt so good to be clean, so I was rolling around in the grass.  finally I had dried off rnought to kay on my bed.  I took a long nap.  Bathtimes are hard on old girls.

Well Mom just signed Miss Cricket up for Puppy class.  Cricket is doing pretty well with training, but being part Terrier, she does have a stubborn streak in her. She does well with the training at home, but being around other dogs, she is having a bit of problem with not wanting to listen.  And also she will be entering her teenage years and that is not a fun time for humans as we seem to forget what we were taught.  Also Mom feels Cricket needs some socialization with other dogs.  I never went to school although mom had me recieved a gift certificate for a class, but I hurt my front shoulder and couldn't attend.  As it turned out I didn't need the class anyway, and mom really didn't like the instructors methods.  She found a lady that does more of a positive class, so she signed Cricket up.  The lady also has had numerous types of Terriers, Bostons, Jack Russells, Cairn etc.  She also is a foster parent to dogs from all over the USA.  She right now has a Cairn Terrier that was a total mess as he was rescued from a puppy mill from a Amish farm in Penn.  when she first got him and he has come a long ways.

Mom and I are getting old and falling apart.  My old rearend is just giving out on me.  I went down hard today and when I finally was able to get up I was limping pretty good.  Mom feels so bad for me.  Mom has had bronchitis and she ended up at the Chiro with 3 dislocated ribs and numerous virtabraes were out.  She suffered with big time headaches this weekend and wasn't able to sleep, as she couldn't find a comfortable potition to lay it.  I even gave up my couch, but it didn't help either.  We wished we was young like Miss Cricket so limper and full of energy...IT IS HELL TO GET OLD!!!!!!

Well looks like spring is going to be late this year.  We have been having snow again.  At least it is pretty much melting and gone before late afternoon.  Mom had to go and relieve Beckey at the shop for about an hour and half.  She took Cricket with her.  She did pretty good.  She did bark at some customers, but mom picked her up and introduced her to the customers and then she was fine.  She does love kids, even the little ones.  She is doing really well at the stay command.  When ,mom gets out of the car, she makes Cricket stay until she is out then she tells Cricket OK!! and Cricket jumps out of the car.  Then she will walk in front of the car and mom tells her to stay so she can help me out of the car.  Then she tells her OK!! GO TO THE HOUSE and she does and waits at the door for us.  Dad doesn't have as much luck getting Cricket to listen.  Mom has told him just what and how to do it, but you know men..they don't listen.  He has a hard time communicating with me.  Mom says he is in denial that I am completely deaf.   I know what mom's handsignals mean..dad's I am not sure of since he has came up with us own..MEN!! Now if we could just get Cricket to stop pawing my face...I hate that.  She is very gentle when she does it, but I still hate it.  Mom made a batch of blueberry cookies for Cricket and me, she also made some strawberry ones too.  Boy they are yummy.  She figured that there shouldn't be anything in them that would hurt me..besides blueberries are supposed to be good for you.

Well we are having typical Eastern Oregon March weather, one minute it is snowing the next the sun is shinning and the daffadils are trying to push up through the cold ground.  Two days ago Cricket and I were helping Mom pull up her lavender plant.  Well mom was pulling and cutting branches and putting them in a pile wheile Cricket and I took them out of the pile.  I stopped after a while, but Cricket continued to grab the lavender branches and take off with them, not making mom a happy camper,  She finally got it dug up and filled the hole in and raked the spot nice and level.  We went inside, and Cricket stayed outside.  Mom went in and took a shower as she was smelling quite heavy of lavender. As she stepped out of the shower, Cricket shows up in the bathroom dirty head to toe.  Mom knew she must have been digging and she did.  She dug 3 holes right where mom had just level off the spot were the lavender had been.  Oh mom was not very happy, then she notice something on the floor, it was a big night crawler, Cricket dug up a night crawler and had brought inside.  Mom was really not happy.  She yelled Cricket and of course the little turd shot outside and stayed just far enough away from mom, so she wouldn't be caught.  I tell you nothing that moves on the ground or in the ground will be safe from Cricket.  Mom said she knows we won't have a mole problem with Cricket anf I araound.  We may have hug holes in the yard, but no moles or gophers.

Well we had a quiet Easter.  The kids went camping on the coast in there new tent trailer.  Mom was sad as we always spend Easter with them.  Mom put Easter things on us and Cricket flipped out.  She had better get used to it as mom likes to do those things.  Cricket was playing outside. She came running into the house like a bat out of hell, which she does a lot of time jumps in dads lap.  Dad yelled what do you got on you.  She had the yellow liquid all over her side.  Mom looked at it and took a smell and it was urine.  What urine how did she get urine on her...the Easter Bunny???? No we are pretty sure it was the neighbors black lab Gunner.  Cricket really likes Gunner and they play through the fence.  Mom thinks Cricket was standing at the fence when Gunner decided to take a pee and got Cricket.  Of course Cricket got a bath...hehehe that will teach her to come in with some new peefume.  We got some blueberry cookies and a little slice of turkey for Easter.  Man I thought I had died and went to haven.

Well it has been quite a while since I have posted.  Cricket has grown.  She now weighs 7 lbs 6oz.  I have accepted her as my little sister even though there has been times I still would like to eat the little rat, especially when she has to get in my face.  She is always pawing my face and I don't like it.  I have never bit her, not that she hasn't deserved to be bitten, she has, but being the sweet gentle girl I am I haven't.  She now has joined mom and I on our walks.  She does pretty good except she will cross infront of me causing me to stumble.  She hates her collar and harness and will run away when mom gets them.  I still get my walks alone with dad.  We don't think dad could handle the both of us.

For Christmas we went to my human sisters house.  This was Crickets first big road trip and she did very well, better than I did.  I hyperventilated all most all the way over.  We had a nice Christmas.  Got lot's of present and goodies.  Cricket played with Hatcher the Boston Terrier and left me alone.  Cricket wouldn't open up her presents so I tore it open for here.  Actually I got tired of waiting for Bryce to finish passing out the presents and started opening one of his.  Of course I go in big trouble.  Man the kid was too slow and I wanted to open presents, it is the only time we can tear something up and get away with it.

BAD BAD DOG....BAD MOM.  Well Cricket chewed up something important.  She got ahold of moms Phone head set and chewed the soft ear cover off and the plug in wire in two.  Mom was not Happy.  Mom yelled Cricket and Cricket went running.  BAD MOM FOR LEAVING IT WHERE CRICKET COULD GET IT!!!! SHAME.. SHAME!!! Today the weather has changed big time, it is raining and the wind is blowing, so Miss Cricket does not want to go outside to pee.  Mom has been carrying her way out to the back of the yard.  Man a little rain isn't going to kill her what a whimp.  Man what is she going to do when the snow falls, which may not be to far off as it looks like and feels like it might snow today.  Mom has to work so Cricket will be kenneled up all afternoon, which gives me a big break.  I can lay anywhere without being jumped on, slapped in the face or my tail getting chewed on.  OOps the lights just blinked, we may have a power outage today.  Hope not or Cricket will feeze her hindend off.

5:58 PM

Well not much has been happening.  Cricket has been pretty good, except when she pee'd on the carpet after mom spend all day shampooing carpets.  Mom was not happy at all with her.  It has been several months since she has had an accident in the house.  One more week and she will have her last shot and will be able to go out into public places.  Mom has been trying to leash train her.  The little stinker starts rolling when mom hooks the leash to her harness.  She rolls so fast she wraps the leash around her several times.  Mom thinks that with my help she may settle down a bit and walk with me and not fight the leash.  Mom has made her another coat as she grew out of the first one quite fast.  She hates the coat and will hardly move.  I bet when it gets to be the middle of the winter and 20F outside she will be glad to have a coat on.  Mom decided that she is going to put up the baby gate in the front door Halloween night.  Cricket gets really excited when someone knocks on the door or rings the door bell.  She is a lot like me, she has to vivit everyone.  At least she is small and can't knock anyone down, like I can. The bad thing with the baby gate up I won't be able to go out and stick my head into the kids goodie bags to see what they got.  Mom told dad that Cricket has become my ears.  If someone is at the door, Cricket runs towards the door and then I know someone is there too.  So far she isn't a big barker.  She only barks a little bit when wanting to play.  She does love to lay in Dads lap when he is home.  She also likes to go bye bye.  Mom had to work a couple of hours today and Cricket wanted to go.  Dad told mom she cried a little bit after she left and kept going to the door as Mom would come back and get her.  Mom just hopes she doesn't get seperation anxiety.  She is still in her crate if mom has to leave her at home as she is in to everything.  Tonight she grabbed dads sock just as he took it off and run off with it.  Mom caught and took it away from her.  I still go and steal my toys back then lay my big paws over them so Cricket can't have them.  After a while i get up and let her have them, but I have show her who is the boss around here!! ME!!

10:50 AM

Things have been busy around here.  Mom has been busy sewing winter dog clothes and putting together dog advent calenders, xmas stockings etc, plus working, and keeping up with cricket.  She does set time aside for me.  She gives me massages and tickles my belly.  Cricket gets in trouble if she tries to get in the way of my special treatment.  Cricket got a new toy called a loofa toy. She went crazy over it.  Mom went back and grabbed a couple more as they were so cheap.    Cricket tries so hard to be with me, but I still prefer to be left alone.  I walk the property and guess who's right there with me.  Mom says Cricket acts so proud to be with me.  She picks up her little feet looking like she is prancing.  Last night she had a big time accident.  No not the potty kind.  She was out in the yard running her 100 mph laps around the yard, then up on the deck and comes running through the sliding glass door.  The problem is she missed the opening and slammed right into the glass.  She hit really hard.  She was making funny breathing noises and had mom worried.  But in about 5 minutes she seem to be fine and back to normal.  Reminds me of the windex commerical the birds close the sliding door and the human walks right into it.  Guess I shouldn't laugh as I did it several times when I was a pup.  Mom had a bad day at the pet store.  Two finches got loose and she spend all day trying to catch them, finally she did.  In between chasing the finches, she had sold 3 parakeets, which just bit the crap out of her.  She came home and said she hated birds.  She did mention Tooter the Amazon Parrot made her laugh today.  As she was chasing the finches they would fly by his cage and he would say wow oh oh!! and then laugh.  Now see if I can get on the couch and take a nap without some little monster bothering me, while mom bakes our cookies.

Well Cricket is a trader to the dog species.  She was out in the yard playing and Mom went to check on her.  She couldn't find her at first then there she was with the neighbors kitty.  She was PLAYING withTHE CAT.  MAN I THOUGHT I HAD TAUGHT HER BETTER!! YOU DON"T PLAY WITH CATS YOU CHASE THEM OUT OF THE YARD!!  Of course that is just what I did.  Cricket got upset and try to find a way out into the neighbors yard to get with the cat.  Thank god the cat is nice and was willing to play with Cricket and not hurt her.  What am I going to do with that kid!!!  Last night I decided to play with Cricket.  Well at first mom thought that what I was doing.  I used my head to knock her down then I laid my head on her and pinned her down, not hard enough to hurt her and she was able to escape.  Then I did my growl play, but the growl sound change and I barked.  My play nipping seemed to be rough, but I never bit her and it didn't seem to scare her, but mom started to be concerned if I was playing or being a bully and just letting her know I was the Alpha and was letting her know.  Mom said she was going to really have to watch me and hope I don't get aggressive with her.  She is hoping I'm not getting jealous

Well today Cricket and I went to the vet.  Cricket had her 3rd series of shots.  She weighed a whopping 3lbs and 3 oz.  I went to have a fat tumor which is on my left side checked out, which is now bigger than a grapefruit.  Mom would love to have it removed, but with my previous liver problems and my age, I stand a big chance of not coming through the surgery.  The vets said that we can just leave the tumor as long as it is not bothering me, which it isn't.  It just looks bad this big old lump hanging off my side.  It is really noticable as I have lost so much weight.  Last January I weighed in at 74lbs, now I am down to 65lbs.  I am wasting away. Mom says when she massages me all she can feel is bones.  My muscle is slowly leaving.  About five years ago I weighed 89lbs.  The good news is my heart and lungs are in great shape fo my age.

Well today I tried to play with Cricket, well for a few minutes that is.  The old body just hurts to bad when I try to play ruff house.  When I growled, Cricket didn't get scared, I guess she new that it was a play growl.  My favorite thing to do is to get a toy and lay with my big old paw on top of it.  Mom is convienced I am just teasing Cricket.  She is right I am and also reminding her I am still the head honcho around here.  I have pretty much accepted that Cricket is here to stay and is not going to go away. Mom says Cricket really adores me.  Just before bed time, I was laying on the floor and Cricket came over and was sniffing my nose, when all of a sudden I sneezed.  Cricket fell backwards.  Mom laughed so hard.  Man could my big old labby nose blow over a little pup.  Mom thinks it was more that I scared Cricket then it was blowing her over.  She sat up and looked at me like WHY DID YOU DO THAT????

8:16 PM

Well having a puppy around has cut into my computer time.  She is into everything.  The last few days she has been pushing moms patiences.   You think Labs are bad, you should see what a Rat Terrier/Chihualua mix is like.  She always has something in her mouth.  I am so glad I am deaf and can not hear NO CRICKET!! DROP IT!!!  which is repeated a lot and I know the has been some rather choice words at time, just the way moms facial expression changes. Everytime she is in trouble she comes running to me.  What does she think, I am going to safe her?? Don't think so..kid!!  Today I was laying by mom and dad at the kitchen table when mom and dad were having their cup of caffine.  Miss Cricket wanted to be held and was whinning.  Mom told her no!!  Well she was determined to get into mom's lap so she jumped on me and tried to jump into moms lab, but she smacked right into the table, so she sat on my whining.  Finally she right over and laid on her pillow.  She loves to play with the neighbors black lab puppy who is  just a little older than Cricket, but a whole lot bigger, through the fence.  At one point they were both trying to dig under the fence until mom caught them and put a couple of hugh rocks to keep them from digging there.  Cricket tried to move the rocks, but they weigh a lot more than she does.  Tuesday We both are going to see the vet.  Cricket gets her 3rd shots and I am going in to have my fat tumor checked out.  It has gotten bigger than a grapefruit.  She is so worried that if I have to have it removed I may not make it through the surgery, due to my age and liver problems, so she wants to talk to the vets about it. They didn't remove it as they didn't really think I was going to live as long as I have.  I guess I showed them.  Last night I decided to play with mom, which I haven't done for a long time.  Normally I play for a few minutes then get up and walk away, but I played quite a while.  The I went and grabbed a couple of toys and laid down with my big fat paws on them.  Mom said I was teasing Cricket.  Who me??? tease the MONSTER BRAT..NOT ME (hehehehe)  Cricket has decided to follow me when I make my 2 daily trips around the property, which it quite a trip for a tiny dog, our back yard is at least 100 ft x200 ft.  Mom is concerned she will try and get out somewhere back there, so far she has found to many things in our yard to keep her occupied.  Well better go and get on my couch for now.

Well it has been a week since we have posted.  Mom has been busy chasing Cricket around.  That little monster is all over the place.  We have a hugh yard and she has found that out, so she has begin exploring it.  There are a lot of areas the little burger can get out.  With me it was no problem as I was much bigger in size.  Mom will go out and look for her, call her and she is no where to be found, then mom will turn around and then she is sitting right behind her.  Mom made a harness for her and put it on her, she freaked out big time, when mom hooked the leash to it.  She started rolling, she rolled and rolled.  Mom unhooked the leash and Cricket ran straight into the house and climbed up on the sofa and hid under her blankie.  She doesn't like her coat either, she just sits like a statue.  Mom said man maybe we can just put it on her when she is driving us insane.  Cricket is a bug killer.  She loves to catch and eat moths, crickets any bug that is in reach.  Now since Cricket moved in with us, I don't have much of anything to call my own.  She has taken over my toys, she plays on my bed, she has even got on the couch and laid in my spot (mom does make her get off)  She gets into my dish...now she decided to play in my wading pool!!!  The only thing I have left that is mine, is the backseat of the car(so far) my collar and leash!!  That is it..I HAVE NOTHING LEFT!!!!!  Everyonce in a while I will go and get one of my old toys and lay by it, holding it down with my paw.  I will growl at Cricket if she even gets close.  I used to walk the entire fence line in the morning, by myself, well now Cricket thinks she has to come along.  What is a poor lab to do???  So far I do get to go for my walks with Mom or Dad without Cricket.  Mom said that will never change.  My walks are my walks.  We'll see.  The brat is getting so spoiled.  Should have ate her when I had the chance.

Cricket got stung today by a yellowjacket in the mouth, but thank god she had no reaction.  I even tried to play tug a war with her.  She will latch onto her toys and there is no letting go. I grabbed the other end of her pull toay and she had the other end.  I pulled and started swinging my head, well I still have some muscle left in my old body.  I flung the toy with Cricket attached.  She hit the ground and still refused to let go of the toy.  In someways she is one tough little cookie, but when it comes to cooler tempatures she doesn't do well.  Most mornings you will find her buried down in a blanket.  Once the sun is up and shinning on the yard, she will finally come out to play.  I love the cooler tempatures, I will lay on the deck and take it the nice crisp air and can't wait until the leaves fall.  I bet cricket will go nuts witht he leaves

Sorry we haven't posted for a few days.  Mom has been having back problems and hasn't felt up to getting on the computer.  Well sweet housebrike Cricket is no more!!  She has turned into the puppy from hell.  She started pooping in the house, stealing everything that she can sink her teeth into.  She also has found out we have a very big yard and has decided to explore it, which is bad as it is so difficult to find her as she is so little.  She will not come will called.  She has a favorite toy which is a little duck that goes quake quake quake when you squeeze it.  Mom starts yelling quake quake to get Cricket to come.  I am sure the neighbors are convienced mom is crazy, but it is the only way she can det Cricket to come.  Cricket is one determined puppy.  If she wants up on the chair or couch she will find a way to get up there, including using me as a trampolene.  She even thinks she needs to stand on top of me.  I tolerant it most of the time, but there is times I have to put her in her place.

Day 28

Today Mom made a seat for Cricket in the car.  She took a camping chair that used to be Bryces, he out grew it.  Attached a metal screen bin to it.  Covered in with a towel with a blankie in the bin.  She bungee corded it to the car seat.  Now Cricket can see out of the car windows.  Later that afternoon, I walked outside and of course Cricket was right behind me.  I walked down the ramp, with my tail swinging back and forth. My tail pretty much just hangs low these days  Cricket was still right behind me, but she was jumping back and forth, right to left, left to right dodging my tail.  Mom laughed so hard.  She wishes she could have got it on video  One swipe of my tail would send her flying.  In the evenings I have been known to let her snuggle close to me.  Now the little stinker has figured out how to get on MY COUCH!!!! MAN IS NOTHING SACRED AROUND HERE.  So far my wading pool is still MINE!!!, but she has been investigating it.

Day 27

Cricket was a bad girl today.  Mom sat her outside to potty when we got up.  She darted back to the house several times.  The wind was blowing pretty hard.  Mom figures Cricket didn't like the wind.  She did pee.  Then ran back into the house and into the living room and pooped on the rug.  Mom yelled no and put her back outside and shut the door for a few moments.  Then let her back in.  The rest of the day she did good.  Mom took us both for a ride.  Cricket just curled up and went to sleep in the seat.  Mom thinks she is going to be a good dog in the car.

Well we went camping without Cricket.  It was a good thing Cricket didn't go.  There were 2 young labs there and they knocked me down several times.  The ground was really rocky and I had a hard time walking.  The yellowjackets were really bad too.  Mom pretty much stayed in the trailer as they swarmed her everytime she came out of the trailer.  Mom hurt her lower back on top of her shoulder problem,so we came home early Sunday.  Mom went and got Cricket as soon as we got home.  She slept most of the day as she had played hard with here dog family.  She did start to pee on the carpet,  mom yelled no and grabbed her and took her outside.  Today she was back to normal, just taking powernaps off and on.  She has dad wrapped around her tiny little paw.  She sits by his chair and whimpers and he picks her up and she falls asleep on his arm or in his lap.  Don't let this get out, but I am getting soft.  Mom came looking for Cricket, she didn't see her at first then she finally spotted her, curled up by my belly and I just laid there.  Mom ran to get the camera, but the batteries were dead, so she didn't get a picture. hehehe now she has no proof of how soft I am getting.  Actually I have to admit if I had a choice of 2 rambuctous labs and Cricket, I would have to take Cricket, at least if she runs into me it doesn't hurt like those labs do. Now if she would just stop the biting.  She isn't doing it as often, but every once in a while she still gets my tail or paw.  I know that she won't be going with me on my walks even after she has all her shots.  Mom and dad say that is my special time.  Maybe we will go for other walks where Cricket can come, but not my afternoon walks. They are all MINE
